Don't forget about your New Prescriber NPI
Prescriber NPI Reminder
As previously communicated on 9/4/07, The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has indicated that the National Plan and Provider Enumeration System (NPPES) Registry is now available. Prescriber NPI numbers are available at the website below:
Most Third Party Payors have delayed the requirement of Prescriber NPI in on-line claim adjudications because CMS has allowed them to utilize contingency plans until May 23, 2008. However, payors may begin requiring prescriber NPI prior to May 23, 2008.
It is in your best interest to begin acquiring presciber NPI numbers now.
Please populate the numbers in your pharmacy system so when they become a plan requirement the information will already be on file. Either contact your local physicians to obtain the information or utilize the NPPES registry via the link above to obtain the NPI numbers.
If you have not obtained prescriber NPI numbers prior to each plans' requirements you will be unable to process claims.
CMS has also made a downloadable file of Prescriber NPI numbers available.
Remote Backup Monitor
Monitoring your Remote Offsite Backup files (Optional ApotheSoft Feature)
ApotheSoft has a remote offsite backup feature that can automatically copy your complete prescription processing system to an offsite storage facility. This option only costs about 40 cents per day. Until recently it was not very easy to know the status of your daily backup if it ran automatically during the night. Now each time you start the ApotheSoft system and login it will check the status of all backups for the last week. If anything seems to be a problem you will get a popup screen showing the problem. This feature can also be run from the File Menu.

Math Formula Calculator
Both the Total Amount Authorized and the Quantity Dispensed fields now support Math Calculation Functions. Just enter a calculation and ApotheSoft will do the math.
Patient Follow-up Date
Patient Follow-up Tickler Date
You can now add tickler dates to any patient. There is a new field (see screen shot) that allows the input of a date to follow up on a patient. A new Patient Report (selectable from the Report Menu) will print out all patients that have Follow-up dates that are due or past due.
Also notice the button next to the date [?]. If you click that button a calendar will popup and you can select the date with your mouse.
If you want to clear a Follow-up date just make it blank.
NOTE: This popup calendar is available for most other date fields throughout the ApotheSoft system.

ZIP Code Lookup
Simplify new Patient and Doctor entry
If you want to save time in setting up new Patients or Doctors just type the ZIP Code into the CITY field and when you press Enter or Tab the system will lookup the City and State for you and put them back in the proper fields.
ZIP Codes must be exactly 5 numeric characters for this automatic lookup to work. If the ZIP Code is not found you will get a warning message. If it is found the cursor will be placed back in the CITY field in case the look up is not the correct City. If the City is correct just press enter or tab through the City, State, and ZIP fields to accept them.

New Drug Usage Report
A new Drug Usage Summary report is available to show you the totals for filled prescriptions for a specified time period. It can help you determine average inventory levels or buying levels.
You can specify the desired date range and you can print or suppress cost information.
